So I just ran out of my commercial shampoo, and damned if Walmart's getting another penny of my money. Shampoo recipes plz? I have oily hair and lots of it, so that needs to be accounted for in the recipe, as does the fact that my soapmaking skill level is single-scent melt-and-pour.

Thanks!

I've been experimenting with store-bought soap for washing my hair, after the shampoo bar I'd bought in Germany was gone. That was handmade soap, via the 'cold process' from www.Savonetta.de. On the package they list as ingredients; Sodium Olivate; Sodium Cocoate; Sodium Castorate; Sodium Hydroxid; Persea Gratissimi Oil; Aqua. The website also lists "Citral, Linalol, Limonen".
I still want to try to replicate this soap bar, but I haven't been able to find castorate oil...

Now I'm using regular Marseille soap to wash my hair; the non-scented variety. And I still use a 10% vinegar rinse afterwards.

Depending where you are, you may be able to buy castor oil from a pharmacy. Be a little careful though; most people are fine, but some can have reactions, allergic or otherwise (soap with castor oil makes me itch). It's usually used at around 5%.

To the OP: I don't use soap to wash my hair unless it's very short. I just don't like the results, even with a vinegar rinse; but YMMV! But if you're mainly looking to avoid paying a big commercial shop rather than specifically to use soap on your hair, how about buying an unfragranced shampoo base from a soaping supplier, and adding whatever additives you want to add? Some do trial packs so you can see whether it gets along with your hair first.
